Umm, nooooooo. But you don't think Alonso went banging on the door at Maranello when Flav/Symonds were pushed out?

You don't exactly go banging on the door in despair and ask for 33mil a year.

So what happens if Massa, god forbid, can't return?

Haven't they just shot themselves in the foot by booting Kimi?

Then again, the Alonso/Fisi lineup has worked before.

VERY well :x:

Lets just say the door was already open. He had a signed deal from 2011 onwards.

So he has magical powers to bring the deal forward? Pullrod from the stone and all that.

Magical powers? Ferrari have been looking to sign him for years. There was opportunity on both sides here.

1) A deal had already been hashed out between principles (Alonso/Scuderia)

2) Flav/Symonds leave, Alonso unwilling to do a year more at Renault.

3) The Scuderia having been looking to get a development driver behind the wheel, now that there is a lack of testing time, that ain't Kimi and Massa is hurt.

My feeling is Alonso would have been shopping himself around heavily this silly season. Ferrari had to do it. I think a lot of you are forgetting how much Ferrari is going to have to pay Kimi NOT to drive for them next year.

You make it sound like Fred really wanted to spend another year at Renault :x: but then decided he will go to Ferrari at the last minute.

Yes, he would have, if Flav were there. He trusted Flav, and why shouldn't he, look how far he was willing to go for him? Last second yes, but you can't deny it was good timing for them both. And I believe there are a couple teams on the grid that would have wanted him, enough to give him some leverage if need be.
